In order to protect the village, Natsu faces off against a new foe, Yuka, who is confident that Natsu will lose to him. Can Natsu defeat him?
Gray has been defeated by Lyon and Natsu finds him. Gray is dejected but Natsu puts him on his shoulders (which are encased in ice that won't melt along with the rest of his torso thanks to Lyon) and Natsu tells Gray that he is a member of Fairy Tail and as such, he should never give up. Gray realizes that Natsu is right as they head for the village to help Lucy defend it from the other wizards that have been ordered to destroy it.
Lucy comes up with a plan to capture the other wizards and she summons Virgo and then orders Virgo to dig a hole at the gate of the village. Virgo does it and they cover the hole. Happy and the others think that it won't work and Lucy says it will. The sentry at the gate says that someone is coming and they open the gate to see Natsu coming with Gray on his back. Natsu falls into the pit and Happy says that it is Lucy's fault. The ice around Natsu disappears and they get them out. They wonder what happened to the other wizards since Natsu beat them to the village and he left the battlefield after they did. Suddenly the villagers see a giant flying rat in the sky. It's the three others and the rat is carrying a bucket of something. A drop falls out and heads to Lucy and Natsu grabs her out of the way just in the nick of time and the liquid causes a small explosion and creates a small crater in the ground. Natsu tells everyone to get in the center of the village and he has Happy fly him up as the rat dumps the liquid. Natsu uses his Flame Magic to deflect the liquid and saves the villagers, Lucy, and Gray. The others land and now they will face off against Natsu and the others. Gray regains consciousness and wants to fight but Natsu punches him to knock him out again since Gray is in no condition to fight. The villagers take Gray and go to a safe place. Sherry is determined not to let them escape and calls on her giant rat to help her catch them. They fly over Natsu and Lucy grabs onto the rat's claw.
Lucy tickles the claw and the rat starts to laugh. It stops moving it's tail and they fall out of the sky.
Natsu and Happy see what happens and Happy volunteers to check on Lucy and now Natsu faces off against Yuka and Toby. He charges him and head-butts Toby and then uses his Flame Magic on Yuka and Yuka dispels it easily. Yuka is able to use vibrations to deflect other magic thus making magic useless against him. Toby also gets up but Yuka says to let him handle Natsu. Yuka fires several blasts at Natsu and Natsu dodges them. Natsu then uses his bare fist to punch through Yuka's vibrating shield. Yuka thinks that it's pointless and then uses his flame magic outside the shield on his elbow to propel it faster and harder and punches Yuka and knocks him out cold. Now he faces Toby and Toby has claws that have a poison that paralyzes anyone it touches. He attacks Natsu and Natsu stops him and tells him that he has something on his forehead. Toby reaches up and touches himself and paralyzes himself.
Lyon is appraoched by a mysterious man in a mask and he asks why Lyon didn't just kill Gray and Lyon says that he has no taste for bloodshed, but that if Gray does oppose him again, then he will allow him no quarter.
Lucy and Sherry have survived the fall with Angelica, however Angelica did not. Sherry is very angry with Lucy and uses her Doll Attack magic to control a tree and has it attack Lucy. Lucy summons Taurus and he dispatches the tree doll easily. Then Lucy has Taurus attack Sherry but Taurus stops and then attacks Lucy! It seems that Sherry can control Taurus since he is not human. Lucy tries to close the gate and send Taurus back to the spirit world and it doesn't work since they both must be in agreement for it to work. Lucy then calls on Taurus to remember when they made their contract and he thinks back and he had promised to protect her no matter what. Sherry calls on him to finish off Lucy and just before he does, he briefly comes to his senses and Lucy sends him back to the Spirit World. Sherry can't believe Lucy was able to do that and Lucy know realizes that she has gotten stronger in her time at Fairy Tail and has a renewed sense of confidence.
