Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Happy uncover a plot to release a demon that wrecked havoc years ago and was only stopped by Gray's former teacher who sacrificed herself to seal away the beast. Can they stop the release of the demon before it's too late?
Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and Happy have discovered the demon, Deliora, sealed in ice on the cursed island of Galuna. For some reason, someone is trying to free the demon and Gray is very upset about it. He says that his former teacher, Ul, gave her life to seal the demon away. They decide to wait until night to find out what is going on and how they are trying to free the demon. Natsu wants to follow the strangers and then suddenly falls fast asleep.
Gray has a flashback and thinks about his training with his former teacher. Lucy is bored so she summons Lyra to sing a song and Lyra starts to sing and this brings more memories to Gray. He starts to get emotional and tells them that they need to stop before someone hears them.
That night, they are awakened by the force of the moonlight coming through and hitting Deliora. They go up to see what is going on and they get to the top of the building, they see a group of masked people in robes chanting. Lyra recognizes the words and says that it's Belianese and it is a spell called Moon Drip. She says that they are using the Moon Drip spell to free the demon. Gray can't believe that it could melt the Iced Shell spell containing the demon, but Lyra says that Moon Drip is the only spell strong enough to undo it. Then they see a man walk up in armor with the three strange wizards (Sherry, Yuka, and Toby) that they had seen earlier. They learn his name is Reitei Lyon and he tells Sherry, Yuka, and Toby to go and eliminate the village. This sets Natsu off and he charges at them but Gray makes it first and he and Lyon clash using Ice Magic. It seems that Gray and Lyon know each other. Sherry, Yuka, and Toby leave to eliminate the village and Natsu tries to run over and stop them but he is frozen by some Ice Magic and is now encased in ice up to his neck, arms, and legs. Gray tells Happy to get Lucy out of there and get her to the village and he does so, though he is unhappy that he has to leave Natsu behind. Lyon and Gray now face off after Gray kicks Natsu down the hill to keep him from being affected by Lyon's magic even more. Lyon thinks that it was a clever move and Gray tells him to stop acting like the elder student. Lyon says that they are no longer students of Ul and tells Gray that he shouldn't speak of her since he is the one that killed her.
Natsu is angry with Gray for knocking down the hill. He tries to melt the ice that encases him but it won't melt. He then heads for the village, doing the best that he can.
Erza has commandeered a pirate ship and is making them take her to Galuna so that she can punish them for taking on an S class mission without permission.
Gray and Lyon begin their battle. Gray uses Ice Magic that is static and he uses both hands and Lyon uses Ice Magic that can move and he only uses one hand. Gray can't even hit Lyon and he winds up getting beat up in the match and is sent flying.
